I recently hiked along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. The sun was shining, the air was filled with birdsong and trout dimpled the surface of the clear, cold water. I stopped to chat with a youth conservation crew that was repairing trails in the mountains above the river. Crew members spoke glowingly about the value of the San Gabriel Mountains and the importance of restoration work. I was reminded that this area is unique and deserves to be protected for our children and grandchildren....
