The San Gabriel & Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy invites Public Comment on the Proposed Grant Program Guidelines and Initiates Tribal Consultation Period
August 20, 2026 – The San Gabriel & Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) announces a public comment period for its proposed PROPOSITION 4 GRANT PROGRAM GUIDELINES (“GUIDELINES”) and will also begin a formal tribal consultation process with California Native American Tribes potentially impacted by the grant program. These efforts highlight the RMC’s commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and effective collaboration in serving all communities, including tribal governments.
Public Comment Period:
The public comment period for the PROPOSITION 4 GRANT PROGRAM GUIDELINES will run from August 20, 2026, to September 20, 2026. Interested parties are invited to submit comments on the proposed grant program guidelines, eligibility criteria, and priorities. Comments can be submitted electronically via info@rmc.ca.gov or by mail to 100 N. Old San Gabriel Canyon Road, Azusa, CA 91702.
A virtual Public Comment session is planned for September 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM via Microsoft Teams. Please RSVP by September 4, 2026, to info@rmc.ca.gov.
All written public comments received shall be posted on the RMC’s website, unless indicated otherwise by the person who provided the written public comment. RMC shall respond in writing to each public comment.
Tribal Consultation:
The RMC will begin a formal tribal consultation period to engage in direct dialogue with California Native American Tribes regarding the potential impacts of the PROPOSITION 4 GRANT PROGRAM GUIDELINES on tribal communities. This consultation period will run concurrently with the public comment period, beginning on August 20, 2026, and concluding on September 20, 2026.
Interested tribes are invited to join a virtual meeting tailored specifically for the tribal community planned for September 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM via Microsoft Teams. Please RSVP by September 4, 2026, to info@rmc.ca.gov, and cc: Chad Oberly, RMC Natural Resources and Tribal Affairs Manager at coberly@rmc.ca.gov. Alternatively, tribes may request an individualized formal consultation by contacting Chad Oberly at the email address listed above.
To ensure opportunities for tribes to provide meaningful input, tribes are also encouraged to submit written comments and recommendations by September 20, 2026, to info@rmc.ca.gov or by mail at 100 N. Old San Gabriel Canyon Road, Azusa, CA 91702.
